I'm starting a project I've wanted to do for a looooong time: I'm giving away all my books.
That's right, I'm giving them away. Hundreds of books will be moving out of my office and my storage boxes over the next few months. They're not being read, and they deserve to be. So I'll be handing, sending, mailing, or strategically abandoning the books I've been hoarding so that others may enjoy them.
This is part of my personal purging... I've been wanting for a few years now to get rid of anything I don't use regularly. I use my laptop computer, my guitar, my mobile phone, my basic wardrobe, a backpack, toothbrush, and so on. But I don't use my books.
The reality is that I love my books, but they just sit there. They are one more thing to store, to move, to maintain. And if I do want to read them, I just have to borrow them from the library or from a friend.
So I feel they should be given away. But I can't just walk away from them free-and-clear. So here's what I'm going to do:
I'm building a section of my site that will be used to track the books as they go. My hope is whomever I give them to will write a comment in the comments section of the book. And so will the next person, and the next person. I want to see where they end up, who reads them, what countries they travel to, and what people think.
If you receive one of my books, please add a comment to it's journal. And then pay it forward. Enjoy it, share it, and pass it on.
